1 - Editor/Manager of Special Projects needed Southwest Newspapers, which publishes seven community weeklies, numerous Web sites, and a multitude of special publications in the southwest Minneapolis suburbs, is seeking an editor/manager of special projects. This person is responsible for the editorial content and in some cases the overall, on-time completion of special projects and niche products created by the Sales Department. This includes annual Residents Guides, Entertainment Guide, online contests, special sections, government and business newsletters, and others. A dual role involves working with salespeople to propose "advertorial" or marketing programs to new customers and then maintain a working relationship with those customers. Understanding the wants and needs of customers is critical to this job, as is the ability to work with sales, graphics, freelance writers, printers, and others. A college degree is required, preferably in marketing, sales, journalism or a related field. Applicable and related consultative selling, marketing and/or journalism experience is also required. Helpful are such things as superior organizational skills, tight adherence to deadlines, an ability to listen well and interact with customers and salespersons, copy-editing expertise, a full understanding of the processes necessary to complete print and online projects, acquaintance with advanced marketing/advertising principles, and a willingness to search for new and non-traditional advertising revenue streams.
